After School Programs
Aftercare is offered Monday through Friday, from dismissal until 5pm (YANY) or 5:30pm (YMCA) through two free onsite programs: YMCA and YANY. These programs are available for students in Kindergarten-5th grade.
YMCA and YANY follow the public school calendar and are available on all full school days. YANY is closed on days when school is not in session and on remote learning days. YMCA is available for free childcare on selected school holidays for those enrolled. Both programs begin a few weeks after school starts and end a few weeks before the end of the year. Exact calendars will be provided to interested and/or enrolled parents. Funding for these programs comes from the NYC Department for Youth & Community Development (DYCD).
Families can mix and match YMCA and YANY each semester.
YMCA is offered Monday-Friday
YANY is offered two days/week; students attend either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday
Families can select only YMCA, only YANY, or do both!
How to Apply
Applications will open to prospective families at the start of school. The school administration will email families with details just before the school year begins. Representatives from YANY and YMCA typically join the virtual Town Hall with the administration in late August.
Pre-K
Every year P.S. 165 looks for afterschool options for Pre-K. At this time there is not an onsite afterschool option although there are local programs available for pick up including Hex & Co and FunFit Kids.
Young Audiences New York (YANY)
The YANY after school program provides arts-focused programming for our children. Its mission is to use art, in all of its forms, as a catalyst for exploring creativity and advancing equity among youth, families, and communities in New York City. More information about YANY can be found on their web site.
YMCA
The YMCA after school program is hosted at P.S. 165 and is designed to allow children to learn and grow through academic and recreational based activities. Participants are given specific times to read, complete all homework and receive extra academic support from YMCA trained counselors. Participants also receive a daily snack as well as an opportunity to participate in various athletic and non athletic activities.
