After studying English and literature in college, he worked as a magazine journalist for several years before he taking a detour into the world of edtech, where he has worked as a scriptwriter and editor. At some point—probably after his own children arrived on the scene—the thought of writing children’s books popped into his head. He hasn’t been able to shake it loose since.
His first picture book, Red Rover: Curiosity on Mars, was published by Roaring Brook Press in 2019. His book Two New Years, illustrated by Lynn Scurfield and published by Chronicle Books in 2023, was the winner of the Sydney Taylor Book Award and the National Jewish Book Award. His sixth picture book, A Taste of Home, was just released by Roaring Brook Press in August.
Today, he continues to craft stories about science, diverse cultures and the delightful ways they intertwine, and the magic of everyday life. He and his proudly multicultural family live in the melting pot of New Jersey.
