May PTA Meeting and Town Hall

We will be holding elections for the 2026-2027 PTA Board on May 22nd, and we want you to get involved! Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or looking to step up for the first time, all parents are welcome to run for any position.

What is Young Audiences New York (YANY)?
YANY is a free onsite after school program for students K-5 which provides arts-focused programming for our children. Its mission is to use art, in all of its forms, as a catalyst for exploring creativity and advancing equity among youth, families, and communities in New York City. Get ready for one of the most exciting days of the year! P.S. 165 is looking for energetic and enthusiastic volunteers to help make our Field Day a huge success. Whether you can assist with games, supervise activities, hand out snacks, or cheer on our students, your support makes all the difference. **NOTE: If you have signed up to be a chaperone for a specific class you cannot also volunteer for a station, as you would need to stay at your station for your shift.
Amity Hall Dinner
Celebrate the end of the school year with your classmates at Amity Hall!
Join us on June 8th for a special community dinner before summer break begins.
Amity Hall is generously opening its doors to all P.S. 165 families and will be donating 10% of the evening's proceeds back to our PTA.

Chipotle Dinner Fundraiser
Do good with Chipotle!
The PTA has partnered with Chipotle to raise funds for P.S. 165!
When: March 31st from 4-8 PM
Where: Chipotle at 110th and Broadway (2843 Broadway)
How: Show the digital flyer on your phone or use the promo code from the flyer for pickup orders. Flyer to come!
Chipotle will donate 25% of all sales from our community back to our PTA. It's an easy and delicious way to support PS165, so grab your family and friends and we'll see you there!

STEM Night
This afternoon is a hands-on learning experience for the students! Planned by our Student Leaders in the Lighthouse Program, this fun-filled event celebrates the wonders of science, technology, engineering, and math through interactive activities, engaging experiments, and collaborative challenges designed for students and families alike.
The Fun: From 3:00-4:30pm, explore various Maker-Stations.
The Highlight: From 4:00 PM – 4:30 PM, watch the Columbia Lion Dance Team perform, followed by a "behind-the-scenes" look at the mechanics inside the lion.
Just a few weeks after Lunar New Year, we’re pleased to have the Lion Dance Team joining us. The Lion Dance Team celebrates Chinese culture through the traditional art of lion dance. The performance can be loud, bring ear protection if you like it.
All students are welcome! Children attending YANY or YMCA will attend with their afterschool program. Children not in YANY or YMCA, including those in Pre-K and younger siblings, are welcome and need to be accompanied by an adult.

Free Vision Screening
The New York Vision Program of Helen Keller International will be visiting P.S. 165. All students are able to have a free vision screening at school. Parents can opt-out by notifying the school.
Eligible students can receive a free pair of eye glasses and/or a referral for a more comprehensive eye exam.

Our favorite book fair is back! Students will attend the fair with their teacher and class.
Additionally, the book fair will be open during STEM night on March 26th for students to shop with their parents.

How does eWallet work?
Book Fair eWallet is the easy way for students to shop the Fair cash-free, worry-free, and independently. It’s also easy for families to set up from your school’s Book Fair homepage, available three weeks before the Fair begins.
Family members can add funds with a credit card, use their Scholastic eGift balance, or simply invite others to contribute. Funds are available immediately and additional funds can be added at any time.
Total sales from our fall fair: $18,751! All purchases at the fair directly support literacy at our school by providing books for other students, our classrooms, and our school library. In the fall, we were able to give $2,150 worth of free books to students, $2,920 worth of books to teachers, and in total gave away $5,679 worth of books to our community.
Help Kids Shop for Books
We’re looking for volunteers to help make the Spring Scholastic Book Fair a success! Opportunities include assisting with setup and decorations, helping students and families browse and purchase books, managing checkout as a cashier, restocking and organizing books, and helping with cleanup after the fair. Whether you can give an hour or more, your support will help foster a love of reading while raising funds for our school. Sign up today to join the fun!

Movie Afternoon
Lights, popcorn, action! Join us for Movie Afternoon — a cozy school community event supported by our afterschool programming. Kids will enjoy watching Moana together in the auditorium from 2:45–5:00 PM, with time before and after for getting settled and wrapping up.
All students are welcome! Children attending YANY or YMCA will be attending with their afterschool program. Children not in YANY or YMCA, ,including those in Pre-K and younger siblings, are welcome and need to be accompanied by an adult.
We need your help!
Join your child to watch Moana and help out with snacks and minimal clean up. Your support will help make this a smooth, safe, and enjoyable afternoon for all our young movie-goers.
