  • Academic Programs

    • General Education, Integrated Co-Teaching, Dual Language Spanish, Gifted & Talented, Self-Contained 12:1:1.

 

  • Awarded Leader in Me Grant

    • The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People integrates seamlessly into our curriculum. Students foster their leadership skills and take on leadership roles around the school including earning Leadership Awards, acting as Environmental Sustainability Coordinators, Tour Guides, and leading special events.

 

  • Art & Ceramics Program 

    • Our art program guides children in many styles of hands-on creation with various types of materials. 

    • PS 165 is the only DOE elementary school with a ceramics program and onsite kiln.

    • Art Works: 3rd graders learn about visual arts and visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

  • New Victory Theatre Partnership. 

 

  • Music/Instrumental Program

    • K-5th grade students learn to play guitar and sing during their music special.

    • Students perform songs in at least three showcases a year.


 

  • STEM & Computer Science for All

    • Brand new computers in the computer science lab where students learn coding and participate in STEM activities.

 

  • Teacher Accomplishments

  • All of our teachers have one or two Masters Degrees.

  • All teachers are trained in Move to Improve to integrate movement into the classroom.

 

  • Onsite Instructional Coaches

    • Professional development and instructional coaching consistently provided to teachers.

 

  • We are a Zero Waste School

    • Through our Zero Waste Initiative, students recycle and compost school-wide.

  • Students have been trained to be Sustainability Coordinators. 

 

  • Physical Education 

    • Daily outdoor recess including organized games with trained All in 2Gether coaches, also indoors during inclement weather.

    • Daily 10 minute in-class “Brain Breaks” as well as purposeful movement incorporated throughout the day during lessons and transitions.

  • All in 2Gether partnership during recess in all grades. 

 

  • Field Trips 

  • Classes utilize what New York City has to offer with inspired field trips throughout the year that compliment the curriculum. Examples include the Museum of Natural History, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Math, and our partnership with the New Victory Theater. 

 

  • Designated as a Respect for All School

    • Our school is recognized for the amazing social emotional work we do with our students.

 

  • Opportunities for Parents

    • Active PTA holds monthly meetings, fundraisers, plans community events

  • Virtual Monthly Town Hall meetings keep parents informed about what is happening and includes Q&A time.

 

  • School Facilities

    • Large, clean, uncluttered classrooms with high ceilings; large indoor gym, two outdoor playgrounds, cafeteria, auditorium, library, STEM lab.

 

  • After School Programs

    • PS 165 hosts a free Young Audiences Program where students can choose from Photography, Drumming/Percussion, Puppetry, Illustration & Comic Book Making, Multicultural Dance, Urban Dance, Pottery, Yoga, and Ballet Hispanico.

    • Partnership with the YMCA and ACT program.
